Why Battlefield 3 is shit

This is written in English, since it'll be for another community than the usual, that (might) read my blog.

Now, I might not be in a proper frame of mind as I write this blog post. I've just spent the last couple of hours raging over Battlefield 3. This will no doubt color my opinion on Battlefield 3.

I'm a massive Battlefield fan. I've played plenty of the titles over the years. I've got really into it with BF1943 and the Battlefield Bad Company 2. I got really into the depth of the game, and the more tactical side of the game. I've had more than 700 hours online with Battlefield Bad Company 2. I played it extensively, and when Medal of Honor, Homefront, Crysis 2 and Brink flopped, I returned to BFBC2 'cause it was a great game. It wore on me as time passed by though, since the players started to not care anymore, and decided to play like douchebags. The servers started to turn very bad and the game was in decline. That's why I was happy when the BF3 beta hit. It was epic. It had it's issues, but it was just a beta.

Retail hits, and it's now apparent, it wasn't just a beta. It was just shit.

Battlefield 3 has the potential to be a massive game. It's core is amazing. It has so much depth, and there are so many things you can do on the battlefield. But DiCE didn't bake the cake enough. The game was rushed. They didn't have time enough to finish it. A shame really, since they now have an unfinished product competing with Skyrim and Modern Warfare 2.

As a result of bugs, Battlefield 3 is now a game, where you can enjoy yourself immensely and also rage like nothing else. At this point though, rage is more likely.

Before the game hit, it was kind of apparent, that it wasn't a finished product. DiCE had talked a lot about e-sports during the development period, but before launch it was said, that there wouldn't be an option for private matches on consoles. At this point, DiCE won't comment on if that will be an option later. It's "no comment" and silence. That means, it's a possibility. But it should have been there.

I'd like to mention some of the other bugs and glitches that are in the game, that really ruins a lot of the fun.
If I'm in a tank, it will drift left. Especially if I'm in a firefight with another tank. It's not a controller issue, and it's a problem.
Hit detection is an major issue, and unfortunately something that just can't be fixed like that. Apparently the hit registration has been moved to from server to client side. But if you have issues on your internet, or on a far away server, you have problems. I've tried SO many times, that my shots don't register. That I need to put 15+ bullets into a person, to take him down. The hit detection is not very good and that infuriating.
Also, there is a problem, that is left over from Medal Of Honor, where you die, even though you around a solid corner.
The squad system is broken. If you squad up with 3 other, you'll most likely not get into the same squad, maybe not even the same team. Also, if you choose quick match it's very likely, that you won't get into a server in your region.
The tactical light is beyond a joke. A flashlight more powerful and intense, than the sun. Get real.
And the audio glitches out. Suddenly the sound goes very low. Other times, vehicle sound disappears. Sometimes the sound of a light machine gun on a tank keeps on, after you stopped shooting. And footsteps..... the only time you can't hear a footstep, is when it's quiet, and a gun comes up behind you. Directional sound can also be very flaky.

Some of the worst things though are, that the maps are glitchy. Still people fall through the surface. Other surfaces are penetrable, even though they shouldn't be. Getting shot through solid walls, is damn near a game breaking.

The spawn system really needs a good tweak. It's really broken. In conquest, you'll spawn inside of the flags capping area, and most likely also in the line of fire. It's even worse in Team Death Match. It needs a serious tweaking. You spawn in, and get instakilled is a seriously rage inducing.

One thing, they probably can't patch, is the maps. Too many of the maps, are to closed. They have three bottlenecks where you need to push through to objectives, and it reduces tactics to numbers in the end of that bottleneck. Tactics are nothing more than grenade and explosive spam. That gets infuriating - again. Only way around that, is either redesign of the maps, or map packs with more open maps. But people really do get frustrated and tired of maps, where people camp in dark corners, and just fire down a straight narrow line.

My experience with Battlefield 3 so far, is that I'm completely dumbfound by the depth of the game. It's beautiful and very immersible. I really do like the game. It's amazing. At least it has the potential to be. But the lag, and the problem that comes with that, has ruined a big part of the experience. Logging on to far away servers, and getting one shot killed by a guy you've put 8+ bullets into, makes me go ballistic with rage. Especially when it happens again and again. Running from fire, and getting into safety, only to die when you get there, is also a problem, that spoils fun.

They need to patch the issues. They need to minimize the lag. They need to make sure, that matchmaking put people in regional servers. The potential is massive. It's a game, you can dive into, and play for years. But right now, it's mostly just frustrating.

And then there is the players, that just don't seem to care about playing objectives or contribute to teamwork. Unfortunately, that can not be patched, and that's a community problem. But if one squad needs to do all the work, on a server with lopsided hit detection and lag, the isn't much fun going on.

But I've had tons of fun, but unfortunately also had tons of grief, and in it's current state, Battlefield 3 is a bit more shit, than a hit
